The last couple of weeks I have been working on a couple projects. One is completely done, and the other one will be done in mid-May. The first one is my square foot garden boxes! I am excited about these. I wanted to plant a garden, so Julie suggested that we build a couple of boxes to put at the top of the stairs. So we went to Home Depot and bought the wood and the screws. Each box is four feet by two feet. Then, Julie's mom came to visit and saw what we were planning. She bought me a book on square foot gardening. It has been amazing, and I think I will actually be able to keep my plants alive long enough to harvest from them. Anyway, I read the book and then planned the garden, put the soil mix together, and laid out the boxes. Julie and I then went to a local nursery and picked out plants. The next day I planted them. Here are pictures of the boxes!
This is the first box. The plants are (from left to right): Watermelon, Spaghetti Squash, Zucchini, and Crookneck Squash. The little pot in the bottom left corner has Basil, Cilantro, and Parsley in it.
This is the second box. The plants are (from left to right): First row- Green Bell Pepper, Jalapeno; Second row- Walla Walla Onion, Red Onion, Spinach; Third row- Lettuce, Celery; Fourth row- Lettuce, Tomato. The back two squares have Red Astible flowers in them.
All I can say is that come mid to late summer, Julie and I will have an amazing crop of vegetables! I can't wait!
The other project is a T-Shirt quilt! I have been saving some of my favorite or most memorable t-shirts since high school. I have finally saved enough to make a lap blanket. It is all sewn together and at a quilt shop waiting to be quilted. Here is a picture of it before being sewn together. I will post a picture of the finished project once I get it back from the quilter.
